Smart Plug Configuration

Prerequisites

The Shelly smart plug setup is only relevant after running the MoG setup script on your gaming PC. If you have not done this yet, set up your gaming rig first.

Smart Plug Configuration

  1. After the installation script finishes successfully, go back to the MoG Hosting portal and click on the name of your newly registered rig.
  2. Select the option to set up your Smart Plug. Shut down your computer, plug the machine into the smart plug and open the plug's web page.
    1. A new plug, not on your Wi-Fi yet: has a Wi-Fi network of its own, named like ShellyPlugSG3-…. Connect your phone or computer to it and open http://192.168.33.1 in a browser. That address is always the same; stay connected to the plug until the last step of this part, which connects it to your Wi-Fi.
    2. A plug already on your Wi-Fi: open its IP address in a browser on the same network. Your router's list of devices shows it, named like shellyplugsg3-….
      To find out the IP address of your plug, you can run this in a terminal window:
$a = Get-NetIPConfiguration | Where-Object { $_.IPv4DefaultGateway } | Select-Object -First 1; $net = ($a.IPv4Address[0].IPAddress -split '\.')[0..2] -join '.'; Add-Type -AssemblyName System.Net.Http; $c = New-Object System.Net.Http.HttpClient; $c.Timeout = [TimeSpan]::FromSeconds(2); $t = 1..254 | ForEach-Object { [pscustomobject]@{ IP = "$net.$_"; Task = $c.GetStringAsync("http://$net.$_/shelly") } }; try { [Threading.Tasks.Task]::WaitAll([Threading.Tasks.Task[]]$t.Task) } catch {}; $t | Where-Object { $_.Task.Status -eq 'RanToCompletion' -and $_.Task.Result -match '"mac"' } | ForEach-Object { $s = $_.Task.Result | ConvertFrom-Json; [pscustomobject]@{ IP = $_.IP; Id = $s.id; Model = $s.model } }
  1. Make the plug switch on when the power comes back. On the smart plug webpage, go to Home, then Output (0), then Output Settings
    Set Action on power on to Turn ON and Save settings. Otherwise the machine stays off after an outage.
  2. In the details of your new gaming rig in the MoG Hosting Portal, find the required settings for your smart plug and then configure your smart plug to use them by going into Settings, then MQTT on the smart plug web page.

  3. Save, then restart the plug if it asks to. Your rig stays on while the plug restarts.
  4. On the smart plug web page, open Settings, then Authentication. Set a password you will remember. This is to ensure a gamer cannot interfere with the plug while playing.
  5. If this plug is new, connect it to your Wi-Fi network, else skip this step. On the smart plug web page, open Settings, then Wi-Fi. In Wi-Fi 1 settings, choose your network, enter its password and then Save settings. The plug joins your network, and its own Wi-Fi turns off after a while.
  6. Wait for the plug to connect. Within a minute of the plug reaching the internet, the status in the details of your new rig in the MoG Hosting Portal switches to Connected. If you change the plug's settings later, press Check settings to see the result right away.
  7. Once the smart plug is successfully connected, a confirmation screen will appear.

  8.  The system will now display your rig’s automatically detected hardware specifications.
